My Workout Playlist Strategy

Greetings Sunshines!

You might be thinking, “There’s no science to making a workout playlist. You just make a list of the songs that you like, hit play and workout?” Sure, it can be that simple, but I want to share with you my strategy for picking songs for my playlist.

First, I start with breaking down my playlist into three sections, Stretching Tunes, Workout Tunes and Cool Down Tunes.

STRETCHING TUNES
Stretching time becomes a time for daydreaming. I zone in on what I want to enhance about my body and how happy I am going to be with the end result. I choose songs that are slow in nature that set the tone for my daydreaming. Try to choose music that will help you paint a vision for your desired body. This will be very motivational!

A few of my favorite stretching tunes.....

  • Kiiara - Gold
  • Banks - Brain
  • Beyonce - Love Drought
  • FKA Twigs - Two Weeks
  • Selena Gomez - Good For You
  • The Chainsmokers - New York City

WORKOUT TUNES
Here, I choose songs that make me want to move! There are plenty of songs that I love and love to sing, but they will never make my Workout Tunes List. These songs not only make me want to move but they make me feel like, “I got this!” Pick songs that make you feel like you can conquer anything.

A few of my favorite workout tunes.....

  • Rhianna - Work
  • Beyonce - Six Inch (Heels)
  • Sia - Cheap Thrills
  • Daya - Sit Still, Look Pretty
  • The Chainsmokers - Don't Let Me Down
  • Major Lazer & DJ Snake - Lean On

COOL DOWN TUNES
My Cool Down Tunes have a mid-tempo, one in between my Stretching Tunes and my Workout Tunes. Not too slow, not too fast. A cool thing to do is to pick songs at the end of an album. These songs tend to sound like you just finished doing something great!

A few of my favorite cool down tunes.....

  • Drake - Controlla
  • Beyonce - All Night
  • Santigold - Starstruck
  • Adele - Send My Love
  • The Chainsmokers - Roses
  • Santigold - Walking in a Circle

I hope this sheds light on how if you give a little thought to how you make your playlist, it can make a difference in how efficient you are when working out.

I'd love to to know a few of your favorites! Upload a workout based photo with a few of your favorite tunes. Don't forget to include #heynikkiandjess in your post.
